Seen around, 43 simple life hacks. Some I knew, but most were new to me.

Sarah Robles is the strongest weightlifter in America, male or female.

She's an Olympian.

She lives in poverty, as she isn't considered marketable. She doesn't have the sort of look that is associated with health or beauty in our culture.

However, she does have a Donate button on her blog, so you can support her directly.

*****

It's interesting to note that the current women's world record is 150 lbs over her personal best. So, apparently there are countries out there that field much stronger weightlifters.

To my Mom, who isn't on lj, and thus won't read this.

I got her a cake, sang her a song, and will be taking her out for birthday shenanigans (seeing Brave, getting food) this weekend.

This is hilarious. I'm not tidy, but I have been compared to Mary Poppins.

Which Disney personality are you?

You are Mary Poppins!

Your "practically perfect in every way" - but of course, you knew that! You are type 1 in the enneagram personality types. For more information on your type visit here: http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/

I'm taking commissions again. Due to logisitics, I'm keeping it in the realm of drawing. Pen and paper is easier than canvas and paint. Less mess, less materials, less space, easier to ship. This is a good bargain for my work: $5 get you a small, original drawing, and a 300dpi scan of the same. I retain reprint rights. My Fiverr ad is live, finally, after lots of technical difficulty. Of course, if you'd like a larger drawing that can be negotiated.

The preview edition of the Arcane Abecediary is up. This is the book to which I recently contributed art.

Art!

So, I have an update post partially written, but fuck it, it'll wait.

One of the people I game with is responsible for the Wampus Country blog, and he put forth a crowdsourcing art call. It would be for art to be used in a free downloadable PDF. He was okay with napkin sketches.

You guys, it's been awhile since I've drawn stuff. So, I figured, sure. Free art, licensed under the Creative Commons (some rights reserved, attributable, noncommercial).

And then I proceeded to draw way too much stuff. I have some more ideas, too, but I'll just use those elsewhere.

Anyway, new stuff is up in my deviantart gallery. My personal favorite, though, is this one.

So, I was recently reminded of this historical personage.

Here's the article on her at Badass of the Week. Here's the Wikipedia article.

She was a 17th century duelist and opera singer. Also, she took orders so that she could enter a convent and rescue/kidnap one of the nuns, who had been forced into the nunnery when they discovered their affair.

This is a repost. I have gone over and donated. This is appalling.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.
